Managing SEO in Craft CMS: A practical guide to getting it right

Sport London brings fans together for the biggest fixtures, fights, and finals across a portfolio of pubs built around iconic matchday experiences.
Having already helped them launch a high-performing website, and establish an SEO strategy focused on high-intent venue searches, we had built an organic engine ready to scale.
Then came the Football World Cup.
With search volumes surging, we delivered a connected SEO campaign that helped Sport London own the search results, and bring the bookings home.
The World Cup promised huge search demand across London, but Sport London’s existing site simply wasn't match fit to capture it. They lacked the bespoke content required to attract fans planning their matchdays early, and the structure to convert those ready to book a table right now.
Facing fierce competition from local venues across the capital, our objective was clear: outmaneuver the competition, build the go-to digital resource for matchday fans, and convert online search demand into packed venues for every kickoff.
To capture fan demand at every stage of the booking journey, we mapped hundreds of high-value keywords into three strategic intent tiers:
Using this map, we created a connected digital ecosystem designed to capture each intent type and funnel search traffic straight through to venue reservations.
Whether supporters were looking for a quiet booth to talk tactics, or sitting down on a packed pub floor to recreate Norway’s viral 'viking row', our job was to make sure every search led straight to a Sport London table.
We built a central World Cup hub as the campaign’s anchor, uniting fixtures, venue guides, matchday packages, and FAQs in a single location.
Surrounding the hub, dedicated country pages targeted team-specific interest, providing UK kick-off times and immediate booking links to the nearest venue showing their game.
The hub and country pages gave fans somewhere to plan their matchday. Editorial content gave them more opportunities to discover Sport London in the first place.
We created articles around the queries supporters were already asking in the build-up to and during the tournament, from qualification and fixtures to host cities and schedules. Each piece expanded Sport London's coverage of the World Cup while strengthening its visibility as a whole.
Connected through strategic internal linking, these articles funnelled readers seamlessly toward the World Cup hub and local booking pages, providing fans with an effortless transition from search result to matchday reservation.
Some campaigns scrape through on penalties. This wasn't one of them.
While the World Cup drove a surge in search demand across London, capturing that attention was never guaranteed. By ranking alongside national media for broad informational searches and outperforming local venue competitors for high-intent queries, our strategy turned tournament excitement into venue footfall, generating more than 24 million organic impressions.
The commercial impact was immediate. Organic search generated almost £1 million in booking revenue, accounting for 75% of Sport London's total venue revenue during the tournament.
Overall, the campaign delivered a 327% year-on-year increase in organic revenue, a 334% uplift in completed bookings and an exceptional 74x ROI.
The World Cup created the opportunity. Our campaign created lasting value. By building authority across tournament searches and connecting search intent directly to venue bookings, we established Sport London as the capital's go-to destination for live sport, creating a blueprint to drive organic bookings for every major tournament that follows.
